Department of State Releases Statistics on Nonimmigrant Visas Issued From FY2008 to 2012

05 November 2013

Department of State has released statistics on nonimmigrant visas issued from fiscal year 2008 to 2012.

The overall demand for U.S. nonimmigrant visa has increased significantly from 2008 to 2012 by more than 35%. In 2008, the Department of State issued over 6.6 million nonimmigrant visas. In 2012, the Department of State issued more than 8.9 million nonimmigrant visas. Of the 2.3 million visa increase, majority are from the B1/B2 visa category, which increased by more than 1.8 million (53% increase) from 2008 to 2012.

Another significant trend is the decrease of nonimmigrant visa use in 2009 followed by a steady increase after 2009. Many of Visatopia’s clients who are in H (temporary worker), L (intracompany exective or manager), or O (extraordinary ability) categories will recognize the similar trend in these categories. H and L categories remain below the 2008 level (8% decrease for H; 14% decrease for L), but O category has exceeded the 2008 level by more than 10%.
