Visatopia Attorney Attends 2014 AILA Annual Conference

26 June 2014

This year, the Law Offices of Deacon Zhang sent one of its attorneys to the 2014 American Immigration Lawyers Association’s (AILA) Annual Conference. This annual conference is the largest gathering of immigration law professionals every year. More than 3,000 immigration attorneys and professionals attended this year’s conference, where they shared the latest practice tips and policies in immigration law practice. This year’s conference was held from June 18 to June 21 at Boston, one of the oldest cities in America and the scene of many key events of the American Revolution.

Attorney Song attended this year’s conference on behalf of the Law Offices of Deacon Zhang. At this 4-day conference, Attorney Song attended H1B, L1, PERM, and EB5 panel discussions led by some of the most experienced practitioners in the field. Particularly, in an L1 setting, it seemed that everyone in the room shared the frustration about the unpredictability of L1 approval and inconsistencies in the adjudication standard. He also learned about the latest practices and policies, and shared practice tips with other immigration practitioners. He also had the opportunity to learn about different EB5 regional centers around the country.

At this year’s conference, the Deputy Director of the Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas delivered the keynote speech, in which he stressed the importance of cooperation between stakeholders and justice in the process. Following his speech, he answered few questions and promised additional accountability and cooperation by the government. The conference was also attended by representatives from different government agencies such as USCIS, EOIR, ICE, CBP, DOS, and DOL.
